From August 31st to September 4th, up on a small hill in the surroundings of Porto, 40 migration practitioners, activists, human rights defenders, and researchers, coming from 13 countries and connected to many more in Europe and beyond, gathered for A World of Neighbours’ 5th Annual Summit. They bonded, reflected, exchanged on their practices, projects, challenges and needs. They met with Portuguese organisations, cooked with refugee chefs, discovered local dishes and dances. They caught their breath and organized. Here is what they left with.

‘My time in Porto, Portugal, during the 5th Annual Summit of A World of Neighbours, was another inspiring and unforgettable experience.
Five days of meeting people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, having meaningful conversations, and learning from one another.
A very special thank you to MEERU, Pedro, Isabel and the entire team for welcoming us with such warmth, professionalism, kindness, and incredible hospitality. You truly made us feel at home. ❤️
From cooking workshops and local visits to meeting organisations and discovering the amazing work happening on the ground — every moment brought something special. And yes… Portugal has definitely earned a special place on my food list!
It was also a great pleasure to represent Rad Music International through a small acoustic performance. Music has always been one of the ways we connect people, share stories, and build bridges across cultures. 🎶
I am grateful to have met so many inspiring AWoN members, to finally meet our Co-Directors Tudor and Aude in person, and especially to be part of the new AWoN Board and continue contributing to this growing network.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this Summit possible, the AWoN Board, practitioners, YAWoN, members, organisers, and especially the wonderful MEERU team.
Every summit leaves us with new stories, new connections, and memories that stay with us long after we leave.
Because when we come together, we are stronger.
As my song says:
“We will meet again.” 🎶❤️
Until then, let’s keep building bridges, sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and creating spaces where every neighbour feels they belong.’
