Anna Stamou is Greek politician, activist and media personality. She has been engaged in refugee rights and interreligious dialogue and praxis since 2003, when the Iraqi refugees arrived in Greece. In 2014 she was the first headscarfed Greek woman, running for a seat at the European Parliament, with an eye on preventing any discrimination against Muslims and to ensure equality for Greek Muslims.
She is currently the Marketing and Public Relations Officer at the Muslim Association of Greece. She is a member of EULEMA, European Leadership Muslim Assembly, MJLC, Muslim Jewish Leadership Council, the EMF, European Muslim Forum and the coordination committee of the Anti-Fascist Movement in Greece.
From 2012 until 2019 she served as the General manager of Ibn Sina Cultural Center, Greek Branch, promoting intercultural dialogue and arranging educational trips between people of different cultural backgrounds. During this time she hosted a weekly radio show at solidarity radio Portokali, titled “I have something to say”, www.portokaliradio.gr
Anna Stamou is an Authorized Sign Language Interpreter of Greek Sign Language & member of the Federation of Deaf in Greece.
