Maria Kjellsdotter Rydinger is a theologian in the Church of Sweden, with a special focus on interreligious issues. During her time as a parish priest in an inner-city congregation in Stockholm, she, together with Imam Othman Al Tawalbeh, initiated an interreligious project where young people from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds work together to reduce racism, xenophobia, and extremism. This project, named “Together for Sweden,” is now an established program within Fryshuset.
Maria was recruited to the national level of the Church of Sweden as a theological expert for the program “A World of Neighbours – Interreligious Practice for Peace,” which was run by the Church of Sweden for four years. The practitioner network, A World of Neighbours, is one of the outcomes of this program.
Maria has also been instrumental in launching a collaboration between the Malmö Muslim Network and Church of Sweden Malmö, focusing on social work and education for those involved in social issues. Additionally, Maria is actively engaged with the Swedish Interreligious Council, particularly in matters related to anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism.
She is the co-author of the books “Faith, Hope, and Prejudice” about interreligious practice and “Dear Ester! Texts on Feminism and Christian Faith.”
